Environmentally Friendly Bamboo Flooring:

Contrary to what is commonly assumed, bamboo is NOT a tree, but actually a grass. In fact, it's the fastest growing plant in the world and can grow up to almost four feet in 24 hours and over 78 feet in 40 to 50 days! Bamboo is typically ready to be harvested every four to five years; at that time the plant reaches eight feet in height and eight to12 inches in diameter. When harvested, bamboo does not require replanting. Mature bamboo has an extensive root system that continues to send up new shoot for decades, so harvesting does not harm the plant, which eventually produces more shoots. There are over 1600 species of bamboo. They come in different size and shape and can be 10 inches high or over 100 inches. Bamboo comes in different colors and can grow in a wide variety of climatic regions.

Jimboo sells a variety of bamboo flooring called Mao-Zhu, or phyllostachys heterocycla pubescens for you botanists. Mao-Zhu is the hardest of all the bamboo species and is better known here as Moso.
